Annual Congregational Meeting Nominees

Sunday, January 29, 2012, the Annual Congregational Meeting will be held after the 10:00 AM combined worship service in the Great Room. There will be a number of positions to be voted on.

The names of nominees for Deacons, Elders, Congregational Nominating Committee and Pastoral Nominating Committee have been placed on the web church web site, along with pictures and brief biographical information (where available). To access this information, click on the above links or click on the word “Candidates” in the menu bar.

In the past, the names of nominees were presented at the Annual Congregational Meeting. This year, the names were made available to the congregation before the meeting, along with photographs and a brief biogrphy. This is a learning process for the Congregational Nominating Committee, the Staff and the candidates themselves.

Please Note: There are nine positions open for the Pastoral Nominating Committee, not four as was stated in the print version of February’s Encouraging Word and early digital copies of February’s Encouraging Word. The online version has been corrected. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused–Rob Carr, Director of Communications.

Shoes for Haiti

Send Your Shoes on a Mission Trip

Are you wondering where you can deposit those shoes you’ll never wear again? We have the answer!! PHCPC is collecting new or gently used shoes to be taken along with them (June 2012 mission trip) to the EBAC orphanage in Haiti! The best type of shoes would be crocs, flip-flops, tennis shoes or work boots and all sizes are needed.

While Keaton Lindberg and his father were on the mission trip to Haiti last year, they noticed that few of the Haitians they met had shoes. For us in the United States, shoes are a simple, common thing. Not so for the people of Haiti. Keaton thought about this and decided to make his senior project an effort to collect shoes for the Haitians for when he goes back for the mission trip this year.

Collection begins on Mission Sunday, January 22 and continues through the month of February; donations will be collected in baskets in the Great Room Lobby. Your support is very much appreciated.

Children’s Ministry: The Now and the Future

Children and Family

Children and Family

As I gaze upon the snow gently falling outside the window I realize that although winter is officially here, we are already furiously planning for all the spring activities that are just around the corner. Again, I have to remind myself to enjoy the day, these days, for once they are gone, they are gone forever.

My family was blessed this year with good health, good friends and wonderful time to be together. Yes, the kids got some great stuff too! I can only hope that as the seasons continue to change that all of you are equally blessed and have the opportunity to enjoy time with your families.

Although we are planning for spring and even VBS for this summer, we are enjoying our time in this moment with the kids. We are enjoying having the kids begin each service with us in the Sanctuary and the Great Room. Both Sunday School and Children’s Worship are going strong. We are having a blast on Thursday nights at Kid’s JAM and our birthday celebration for Jesus was a great party. All the activities are going strong right through the winter so come out and enjoy the kids… now.

It’s time to start looking for some of the events that are on their way. We are starting a Children’s Choir, planning a Children’s Service in April that will include Bibles and Blessings for the 2nd grade; we are about to start a “GoFish” Sunday morning program for the 3rd grade and older group at the 11:00 service alongside Children’s Worship, resurrection eggs, and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg hunt. I guess you will have to keep your eyes on the bulletin, newsletter, and website for all the details. But again, I will remind you that even with all the great activities headed our way, let’s remember to take advantage of today. To quote a line from one of my kids movies, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that’s why it is called the present.” Enjoy it!

In Christ,

Walt Kivala, Children’s Ministries Director
