Are you wondering where you can deposit those shoes you’ll never wear again? We have the answer!! PHCPC is collecting new or gently used shoes to be taken along with them (June 2012 mission trip) to the EBAC orphanage in Haiti! The best type of shoes would be crocs, flip-flops, tennis shoes or work boots and all sizes are needed.
While Keaton Lindberg and his father were on the mission trip to Haiti last year, they noticed that few of the Haitians they met had shoes. For us in the United States, shoes are a simple, common thing. Not so for the people of Haiti. Keaton thought about this and decided to make his senior project an effort to collect shoes for the Haitians for when he goes back for the mission trip this year.
Collection begins on Mission Sunday, January 22 and continues through the month of February; donations will be collected in baskets in the Great Room Lobby. Your support is very much appreciated.

As this is being written Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is on the way. The holidays are different here; not better or worse, just different. Thanksgiving is not officially celebrated by Mexicans or Mexican-Americans. However, over the years we have gradually introduced the custom to some families who now love it even though mixing Mexican food and turkey and the fixings can be “dangerous” at times. This year with the overwhelming cartel presence in Nuevo Laredo our friends asked us not to come so we delivered meals to ten families in Laredo and ate the meal with our “grandchildren.”
This year our cities became an armed camp at times; Mexican army fighting the drug cartels in the streets of Nuevo Laredo, increased forces of Border Patrol and DEA agents on the U.S, side and politicians from everywhere but here calling for military actions. Nevertheless, the poor are still poor and the homeless are hungry and in need of help. So we keep pressing on in His name.
Now is the time our pickup becomes the “Santa” truck. Most of the month of December the truck is loaded with food, presents and packages going to children, the homeless, or people in need. It is a great time.
We are grateful to our Lord for His provision, protection and guidance this year. It has been a year of changes mixed with blessings.
Feliz Navidad y feliz ano nuevo de la frontera. (Merry Christmas and happy new year from the border!)
