How I Became a Christian
On World Communion Sunday of my sophomore year of high school, I was scheduled to be baptized, join the church and take communion for the first time. As I left my high school Sunday school class, the teacher of the class (her name was Gracie Bossert) asked me “What does it mean?”
There are times when the right question crystallizes all that came before. My parents had taught me about God, Jesus and the Bible; I’d been to Sunday school and vacation Bible school; I’d gone to church and sang in the choir. But it was only when Gracie asked what it meant that I really thought about what I was about to do and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
If anyone knows Gracie Bossert, please have her contact me. I wonder if she knows what a few words did to change my life.
Director of Communications
I’m thrilled to be Director of Communications at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. I see God at work here. Children are learning about Jesus in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Over 800 youth come in contact with CrossOver during each year, where they get a deeper understanding of their faith. Many accept Jesus Christ at Laurelville or Friday Night Live or Jumonville. Adult Christian education has taken off, and it’s a thrill to watch! Our church regularly invites (through IHN) people who have been displaced from their homes, giving them a place to stay in the church. Our Mission teams have gone to Malawi, Costa Rica, areas of the United States still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, and the youth group sent mission teams this summer to Atlanta and Boston. Our worship services, whether traditional or contemporary, worship God using beautiful music and excellent teaching. Not only do I attend church where I see God moving mightily, but I hope that in my job I am some small part of furthering His kingdom.
As Director of Communications, I get to work with computers and digital cameras and printers and such, which is fun! But even better, I get to work with a wonderful church staff. We watch each others’ backs, help each other grow in Christ, comfort each other through pain and tragedy, help each other figure out why the color printer won’t print and serve Him to the best of our abilities.
I pray that, in my work, I might be a part of God’s blessing to you the way I have been blessed to work here.
