Version 6: Introduction to "The Jesus Prayer"
This week's prayer follows a one hour prayer guide, each having twelve parts. The content is the same for both links, but the length of silence provided for each part of the prayer is shorter for the 30 minute prayer guide.
Within this prayer guide, we are introduced to "The Jesus Prayer." This breathing prayer has been used by Christians for hundreds of years. It is meant to focus (and continually re-focus) an individual's thoughts on the presence of Jesus during prayer or throughout the day. Does your mind wander during prayer? This ancient prayer may prove to be quite useful for you. When you are unsure about what to pray or cannot seem to gain your focus during prayer, The Jesus Prayer can be a valuable meditative guide. You may also find it to be valuable when you are unsure of how to pray for others. Here are the words of The Jesus Prayer:
breathe in:
"Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of the living God..."
breathe out:
"...have mercy on me, a sinner."
This week's audio prayer guide is based on Mark 10:46-52.
